Announcing New CD and Winning Fridays

By K.M. Weiland | @KMWeiland

As those of who listen to my weekly podcast or follow me on Twitter and Facebook are probably already aware, I’ve been hard at work this summer on a new project: a 60-minute audio presentation called Conquering Writer’s Block and Summoning Inspiration, adapted from some of my most popular blog posts, which will be released on October 1st.

Inspiration is a slippery thing at the best of times. But, as writers, we can’t afford to wait around on Madame Muse’s good will. In this 60-minute audio presentation, I show you how to nurture creativity and put it at your summons, rather than the other way around. After listening to this CD, you will be able to:

  • Build a lifestyle that encourages inspiration
  • Say goodbye to destructive guilt over “wasting” time on creative endeavors
  • Discover why inspiration isn’t so much a feeling as an act of will
  • Understand what to do when your best-laid plans go awry
  • Use your non-writing time to boost your creative energy
  • Apply specific tips to prevent and combat writer’s block
  • Instill habits for improving your efficiency and commitment as an author
I was able to time the release of the CD with the launch of my new-and-improved website: both will be unveiled October 1st, along with a host of other goodies, which I’ll be talking about more throughout this month. In the meantime, you can pre-order your copy of Conquering Writer’s Block and Summoning Inspiration by clicking the button in the top of the left column.

We had so much fun with the Winning Wednesday contests before the launch of Behold the Dawn last year that I couldn’t resist bringing them back (on Fridays this time, to avoid interfering with the vlog posts on Wednesdays). Every Friday between now and October 1st, Wordplay will be hosting a prize drawing. Rules of the contest are as follows:

  1. Each Friday, information about a new prize will be announced.
  2. To enter, leave a comment on the post. The deadline for each contest with be Thursday, 6:00 p.m. MST.
  3. One name will be selected randomly from among the comments and announced the following Friday.
  4. Feel free to enter every week!
This week’s prize:

1) The e-version of either of my novels (A Man Called Outlaw or Behold the Dawn), available in your choice of formats: Kindle, Stanza, Sony Reader, or Palm Doc.

2) A sneak peek at one of the goodies coming up in the website launch: The “10 Habits of Successful Authors” bookmark.

Leave a comment to enter and be sure to stop by next Friday to learn the winner and sign up for the next drawing!

The CD sounds really good. I'm going to have to consider getting this one. And I have to tell you, I'm so impressed on your marketing techniques. I think you should do a CD or ebook or something on how you accomplish all this.

  2. Charity Bradford September 3, 2010 5:53 AM

I'm so excited! About the new CD, website and the opportunity to win one of your books. This was a good way to get me to leave google reader and comment. ;)

  3. Erica September 3, 2010 6:22 AM

That's so cool! I don't know how the heck you have time to write a book with all the great stuff you put on the web!

  4. Eldra September 3, 2010 7:07 AM

I agree with Erica, I barely have enough time to write anymore, but you seem to be doing fifty things at the same time! How do you do it?

  5. Katherine Sophia September 3, 2010 7:38 AM

That is so fun! By the way, I'm posting my own 'Degrees of Inspiration' tomorrow. :D

  6. Chris Burdick September 3, 2010 7:53 AM

Fun, fun, fun! Count me in. I'm excited about the CD and the new website. Can't wait for both. Well done!

  9. K.M. Weiland September 3, 2010 9:51 AM

@Naomi: Maybe one of these days when I've got it all mastered (ha!), I'll do a presentation on marketing.

@Charity: All part of my evil plan, don't you know? ;)

@Erica and Eldra: Schedules are friend. And also coffee.

@Katherine: Can't wait to see it! I've been loving the posts everyone has shared so far.

@Chris: Thanks, Chris. I appreciate the enthusiasm and the encouragement!

@Jeannie: Thanks! I fell in love with that pic myself.

@Celecia: I hope you find it useful!

  10. Eldra September 3, 2010 1:38 PM

Too bad I can't stand coffee. But I'll take dark chocolate any moment of any day.

  11. K.M. Weiland September 3, 2010 1:51 PM

If I had to pick between coffee and chocolate, chocolate would win every time!

  12. Galadriel September 3, 2010 2:12 PM

Where did my post go? I want to enter.

  13. K.M. Weiland September 3, 2010 2:17 PM

Uh-oh. Blogger must have eaten it. But you're entered now!

  14. Angie September 3, 2010 2:48 PM

    Sounds like a terrific CD!

  15. K.M. Weiland September 3, 2010 2:51 PM

Thanks, Angie. Hope you enjoy it!

  16. Lee Smith September 3, 2010 3:03 PM

The CD sounds fantastic and I agree, I don't know how you keep all the plates spinning and in the air. Just maintaining this blog the way you do must take loads of time. I know we all appreciate the posts.

  17. K.M. Weiland September 3, 2010 3:06 PM

Thanks, Lee. I love being able to give back to the writing community since it's given so much to me.

  18. Kelly Freestone September 3, 2010 3:54 PM

    Yay :D
    This is really exciting!

    Congrats, gal.

  19. K.M. Weiland September 3, 2010 3:57 PM

Thanks, Kelly! Good luck in the drawing.

  20. judysnwnotes September 3, 2010 7:26 PM

The premise of the CD intrigues me - take charge of my muse? (inspiratio as an act of will)

I have a lot of ways to nurture creativity - but there are always new angles to consider..

You have been very busy. Glad to see that you are doing well. The new book sounds exciting and your contest will be a big hit.

  22. K.M. Weiland September 3, 2010 10:43 PM

@Judy: The beautiful (and slightly terrifying) thing about inspiration is that it's a territory too vast to ever fully explore. There's always a new discovery awaiting us.

@John: I probably wouldn't know what to do with myself I weren't busy!

  23. Felicia September 4, 2010 2:21 AM

Wow, that CD looks really awesome and you've been telling about the new website for a while too. I can't wait. :)

  24. K.M. Weiland September 4, 2010 9:48 AM

Yep, it's been awhile. I'm excited to share it with you all now!

  25. Corey September 4, 2010 7:41 PM

Please enter me! On your next CD, can you talk about how I can quit my "real" job to write full time while still making the house payment, paying the bills, and keeping the kids fed? ;)

  26. Hannah September 4, 2010 9:48 PM

Ooh! How fun! Here's my comment! :-)

  27. K.M. Weiland September 4, 2010 9:49 PM

You bet... just as soon as I get that part figured out myself!

  28. Lucas Calder September 5, 2010 10:29 AM

@Susanne: Yep, giveaways are always fun! Thanks for the comment.

  41. Michelle September 10, 2010 10:35 AM

  43. JohnMPoindexter September 11, 2010 6:03 PM

Can't wait to see the new site. That the new CD both coming out on October 1st. Seems like forever, but is really only 20 days away.

I keep telling my son that I need him to do mine over.
He keeps telling me when he gets time.

  44. K.M. Weiland September 11, 2010 7:35 PM

October 1st will be here before we know it! Website design is pretty time intensive. But worth the effort!
